Making soft string-type organic EL film (iOLED film light source) into woven fabric – Displaying glowing Nishijin brocade, with light interwoven into the fabric –

NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. (Headquarter: Osaka, Japan, President: Yujiro Goto, hereinafter “Nippon Shokubai”) provides the iOLED film light source for the exhibition co-sponsored by ZOZO Technologies Co., Ltd. (here in after “ZOZO”) and Hosoo CO., Ltd (here in after “Hosoo”) .
The purpose of this exhibition is to present the results of joint research on fabrics that combine traditional crafts and advanced technology conducted by ZOZO, the University of Tokyo, the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies (III), Yasuaki Kakei Laboratory and Hosoo. As one of the exhibits, Nishijin brocade, woven with Nippon Shokubai’s iOLED film light source will be exhibited (the details of the exhibition are mentioned later).

The iOLED film light source has overcome the long-standing problem associated with organic EL, which is the degradation of the device due to oxygen and moisture in the air, through materials and device technology (iOLED technology) jointly developed by Nippon Shokubai and Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). As a result, we realized a highly flexible light source with a thickness of not more than 0.1 mm, which is thinner than paper. This time, Nippon Shokubai and ZOZO jointly developed the structure and shape that can be woven into woven fabrics, and created a new thin string-shaped iOLED film light source. It is expected to be used not only for Nishijin brocade but also for various fabrics.

We aim to create a bright new future with the new light from this iOLED film light source and continue to make efforts to realize our corporate mission of “TechnoAmenity-Providing affluence and comfort to people and society, with our unique technology” through the development and industrialization of innovative and superior technologies.
