NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Osaka, Japan, President: Yujiro Goto, hereinafter \u201cNippon Shokubai\u201d), has formulated a roadmap for reducing CO2 *1 emissions by 2050. This roadmap concerns our \u201cStrategic Transformation for Environmental Initiatives,\u201d which is one of our \u201cThree Transformations,\u201d and is based on \u201cTechnoAmenity for the Future,\u201d the long-term vision of the Nippon Shokubai Group announced in April of this year.
For our CO2 emissions reduction target for 2030, which is the final year of our long-term vision, we set a reduction target of 10% last year, but based on movement towards reviewing Japan\u2019s greenhouse gas reduction target, we first revised the CO2 emissions reduction target for Nippon Shokubai Group in Japan , which account for about 70% of the Group\u2019s total CO2 emissions, to 30%. Going forward, we will also proceed to examine the reduction targets for our group companies outside Japan.
Additionally, in order to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions throughout the entire supply chain (Scope 3 *2), the following items will also be strongly promoted.
\uff65Development and expansion of Environmental Contribution Products (products that contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions when used, etc.)
\uff65Development and dissemination of CO2 recovery and recycling technology (carbon recycling technology)
\uff65Development and social implementation of material recycling and chemical recycling

*1 CO2:
Our Group\u2019s emissions reduction targets are for greenhouse gases, but since they are mostly carbon dioxide (CO2), they are referred to as CO2 in this paper.

*2 Scope 3:
Indirect emissions (emissions by other companies related to business activities) other than Scope 1 (direct emissions of greenhouse gases by business entities) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other companies).
