NIPPON SHOKUBAI announces an expansion of liquid carbon dioxide production capacity at Kawasaki Plant
NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. [HQ: Osaka, Japan, President: Masanori Ikeda, TOKSE: 4114.T] (“NIPPON SHOKUBAI”) determined to expand its liquid carbon dioxide (“LCO2”) production capacity. Total production capacity of LCO2 will be 70,000 T/Y including the existing capacity at Chidori site, Kawasaki Plant.
Carbon dioxide is a noninflammable and stable inert gas, and has wide range applications such as a welding gas, dry ice, carbonated drinks and so on. On the other hand, supply of LCO2 is decreasing due to the downsizing of domestic petrochemical complexes. This expansion project contributes to solve the shortage of supply with utilizing the carbon dioxide gas, which is currently discharged into the atmosphere at Ukishima site, for LCO2 production.
<Feature of the expansion project>
*Production capacity: LCO2 32,000 T/Y
*Schedule:
Mechanical completion: End of March 2014
Commercial operation: April 2014
*Location: Existing site of Kawasaki Plant, Ukishima
*Investment amount: Approx. 1 billion yen
