Explosion and Fire at Himeji Plant (#8)
NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD [Tokyo Stock Exchange – TOKSE:4114.T] (“NIPPON SHOKUBAI”) is deeply saddened by the loss of life resulting from the explosion and fire at the Himeji Plant on September 29 and extends its sincere condolences to family members. In addition, NIPPON SHOKUBAI extends its sincere apologies to the individuals who were injured by this accident and to the enormous problems this incident caused for the neighborhood of the plant and to other people associated with this incident.
Today, Nippon Polymer Industries Co., Ltd. [Headquarters: Hyogo, Japan, President: Hideyuki Tahara] (“NPI”*) re-start the production. Details are described bellow;
1. NPI re-start the production
1) Products and production system
– NPI produces acrylic emulsion and organic solvent based acrylic resins, for use of adhesives, paints, ink and so on.
– NPI has facilities next to the Himeji Plant of NIPPON SHOKUBAI and receives main raw materials (Acrylates etc.) and utilities.
2) Timeline and schedule
– NPI has not been received raw materials and utilities from the Himeji Plant since the accident on September 29.
– After that, NPI built reception facilities for use of raw materials from outside suppliers and some utility facilities by itself.
Today, NPI received a permission from the authority to use the new facilities mentioned above and re-start the production.
– NPI starts operation at low rate and will slightly increase operation rate with care of plant’s safety.
2. All facilities in the Himeji Plant, except the automobile catalysts production facilities, have been suspended until today.
