Dr. Tsuyoshi Hirata, a senior principal researcher of NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. [Tokyo Stock Exchange – TSE:4114.T] (“NIPPON SHOKUBAI”) was awarded Hans Kuehl Medal by the German Chemical Society for development of polycarboxylic acid based polymers for concrete admixture. The prize is given to the person who invented and/or developed creative technologies in the field of construction chemicals and contributed remarkably to the construction industry in the world.
NIPPON SHOKUBAI manufactures and provides the polymers under the trademark “AQUALOC”. AQUALOC is highly evaluated with its high water-reducing effects and is used for many structures requiring high intensity and reliability such as Akashi Straits Bridge and Tokyo Bay Cross Road. NIPPON SHOKUBAI commercialized AQUALOC in 1987, and now its total group production capacity is 101,000MT/Y including plants in Japan, the US, and China.
The prize of Hans Kuehl Medal was established in 2003 to commemorate German Professor Hans Kuehl (1879-1969), who is famous in cement chemistry, and until now 7 persons won the prize. The other Japanese prize winner is Mr. Kenichi Hattori, who belonged to KAO Corporation and got the prize in 2003 for water reducing agent based on naphthalensulfonic acid.
