The Chemical Society of Japan Award 2013 for “ACRYVIEWA”
NIPPON SHOKUBAI is awarded the Chemical Society of Japan Award 2013 for Technical Development:
“Development and industrialization of acrylic polymer containing lactone-rings for optical films”
NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. [Tokyo Stock Exchange – TOKSE:4114.T] (“NIPPON SHOKUBAI”) is awarded the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Technical Development for the development and industrialization of acrylic polymer containing lactone-rings for optical films.
The awarded technology is a new process for producing an acrylic polymer containing lactone-rings through the copolymerization of α-hydroxymethyl acrylate (“RHMA”) and methyl methacrylate then the intermolecular esterification.
The polymer produced by the technology is used for optical films, and highly contributes performance improvement of displays for large size TVs, smart phones, tablet-type devices and so on. Furthermore, the polymer has high potential for other applications. NIPPON SHOKUBAI started the world’s first commercial production of the polymer under the trade name of “ACRYVIEWA” in 2006 and has a production capacity of 6,000t/y in Himeji Plant.
As described above, this technology is superior in originality, and has ripple effect on industry and academic fields widely. Accordingly, it was recognized as worthy of the Chemical Society of Japan Award 2013 for Technical Development.
