Establishment of the Nippon Shokubai Group Long-Term Vision, “TechnoAmenity for the future”

We have established the Nippon Shokubai Group long-term vision, “TechnoAmenity for the future.”

We have achieved significant growth through the development of original technologies since 1941 , however the business environment surrounding us has changed significantly, and while chemical products are becoming more global and commoditized, the functions required for them are also diversifying. Although our Group has been trying to strengthen the competitiveness of existing business and create new products and business, we have yet to achieve significant result.
Under these circumstances, we have drawn up “TechnoAmenity for the future”, the future growth of the Nippon Shokubai Group 10 years from now in 2030.

In this long-term vision, we decided on the concepts of “FY2030 Goals” and “Three transformations” to realize it.

1. FY2030 Goals
Nippon Shokubai Group aims to achieve the following three goals in 2030:
* Provide materials and solutions required by people and society
* Become a chemical company that keeps evolving by identifying social trends
* Develop with various stakeholders inside and outside the company

2. Three transformations
Nippon Shokubai Group will execute the following three transformations to achieve our corporate vision in 2030.
[1] Business transformation
We will transform our portfolio from existing to growth fields.
We will drastically rebuild the Materials business*1 toward the reinforcement of the business foundation, while expanding the highly profitable Solutions business*2.
[2] Strategic transformation for environmental initiatives
To realize carbon neutrality in 2050, we will promote the initiatives for sustainability, such as a reduction in CO2 emissions, recycling, and decarbonization.
[3] Organizational transformation
We aim to transform the company to become one where diverse human resources are motivated to work, and where the organization becomes one with sustainable growth. Specifically, we will delegate authority for speedy decision-making. Also, we will introduce a personnel system where we appreciate human resources who take on challenges.

The Medium-term Business Plan, which is a concrete action plan for the realization of the long-term vision, is scheduled to be formulated in FY 2021 and fully implemented in April 2022. However, we will start various initiatives before the plan is completed.

Under this long-term vision, we promote the transformations speedily to flexibly respond to never-before-encountered dramatic changes and evolve the Nippon Shokubai Group into a more resilient company.

*1) Materials business consists of Basic chemicals business including ethylene oxide, acrylic business including acrylates and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) business.
*2) Solutions business consists of Industrial & Household business including the materials for consumer products, vehicles and construction materials, Energy & Electronics business including the materials for rechargeable battery and electronic devise, and Life Science business including medical materials and cosmetics.
