Basic Information
UWR™ is one grade of the HALSHYBRID™ UV-G Series of products that incorporate UV stabilizing groups (Hindered-Amine Light Stabilizer (HALS)) into its molecular frame.
The sustaining effect of hindered amines with the ability to stabilize UV rays has made it possible to realize unprecedented ultra weatherability.
UWR™ can be used in paints and various coating agents.
※HALS is an abbreviation for Hindered-Amine Light Stabilizer. The degradation of polymers is generally due to radicals, active oxygen and other substances generated by UV rays. HALS inactivates those substances.
Features and Properties
The molecular design is strong against water and UV rays, and prevents the degradation of paint.
By combining UV stabilizing groups that inactivate radicals and active oxygen (by hindered amine binding to the host polymer) with the low hygroscopic functional group that lessens the effect of water, it is possible to achieve weatherability at the same level of fluororesin.
Details of Functions
Weatherability of UWR™
The photo-degradation of polymers is mainly caused by radicals generated by UV irradiation. In the HALSHYBRID™ Series UWR™, UV stabilizing groups in the molecular frame semi-permanently inactivate radicals and active oxygen.
Radicals are generated not just by UV rays, but also by oxygen and water in the surface of pigments. As is shown in the following equations, water and oxygen molecules are converted into hydroxyl radicals and hydroperoxyl radicals by a TiO2-photocatalytic oxidation reaction caused by metal oxides such as titanium oxide (pigment), etc. This means that by minimizing the water content in the films of paints and coatings, it is possible to suppress the progression of the photocatalytic oxidation reaction and photo-degradation of polymers.
Paints and coatings using UWR™ utilize the synergistic effect of UV stabilizing group that inactivates radicals and active oxygen (by hindered amine binding to the host polymer), with the low hygroscopic functional group that lessens the effect of water, to achieve weatherability at the same level of fluororesin paints.
- Ultra weatherability
The weatherability of UWR™ has been verified by the accelerated weather test (AWT) and outdoor exposure test (OET). - High gloss
Extremely high gloss compared to fluororesin, and excellent recoating properties. - Extensive resin form
In addition to emulsion, solvent (One-pack ordinary drying, Two-pack ordinary temperature curable, Thermosetting), and high solid types, there are also types with new functions (C Series).
